Manchester UKVCAS Core Centre
See our dedicated web page for up to date information on the UK Visa and Citizenship Application Service (UKVCAS). The UKVCAS was introduced in 2018 as the new way to make immigration applications from within the UK.
Where is Manchester UKVCAS Centre?
The Manchester UKVCAS is found inside Manchester Central Library, an impressive building in Manchester City Centre (pictured, above and below). The Central Library is located a short walk from Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road train stations, and just opposite the St Peter’s Square tram stop.
The address is Manchester Central Library, St Peter's Square, Manchester M2 5PD.
The centre is housed in the basement of the library and at time of writing there are no signs directing users to the right place. In our experience, Library staff are patient at providing instructions, and at times even accompany users to the right place!
When you enter the building through the main entrance (pictured below) turn left and enter the lift on your left. Take the lift to the LG floor and upon exit turn right – look for a sign that reads CITY LIBRARY. Head towards the information point and once you have reached this turn left and walk to the end of the room – UKVCAS will be on the left.
What is the process once in the centre?
Users are shown to a check in desk where they will need to present their appointment confirmation email and passport.
They are then shown to a biometric booth (pictured below) where fingerprints and a digital photo are taken. Only the applicant is permitted inside the biometric booth. The booths are self-service and this is the process that should be followed:
- Press start
- Scan the barcode of your confirmation document
- Scan the picture page of your passport
- Prepare to have your photo taken (e.g. remove glasses) and press I'm ready. If users are not happy with the photo there is an option to retake.
- Provide your fingerprints
- Provide your signature
After biometrics have been completed, users should return to the check in desks to upload documents if needed, and to finalise the process.
What facilities are there in the centre?
At time of writing, Manchester UKVCAS centre is one of only six core locations in the UK. Given this, White Rose Visas are surprised by the limited facilities available. However, the main thing is that the appointment system usually works well, and users are quickly taken from the waiting area to desks to check in.
Upstairs in the library there is an excellent café, toilets and baby changing facilities. There is also free Wi-Fi and plenty of PCs available if needed.
