New Immigration Application System is now Live
UK Visa and Citizenship Application Service centres
Today, 9 November 2018, the first of the new UK Visa and Citizenship Application Service centres (UKVCAS centres) has opened. The first centre is in Manchester.
Throughout November 2018, the remaining UKVCAS centres will open. This will create a nationwide network. The core UKVCAS centres will be in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast and Croydon. Another 50 enhanced service centres will also be open and operational during November 2018. The full list can be found in this document.
As first reported in our May 2018 blog post these new centres are the centre-piece of a brand new immigration application system. This new system is being launched in conjunction with a private company, Sopra Steria. Sopra Steria are being commissioned to operate the new UKVCAS centres.
How will the new immigration application system work?
The aim is to allow applicants to submit as much as possible online, using digital copies of the necessary documents. This means that applicants need not be without essential documents while they are waiting for their application to be decided.
Biometric information (e.g. photos, fingerprints, signatures) will be submitted at a single in-person appointment. This appointment will be held at one of the UKVCAS centres.
Passports will not need to be sent away while the application is decided, but will instead need to be taken to the in-person appointment. The passports will be returned the same day, so the applicant need not be without it while waiting for a decision.
The UK Government website contains more practical information on exactly how to move through this process.
In addition, our dedicated web page on the new immigration application system contains a useful flowchart of the application procedure (see the PowerPoint presentation at the foot of the page). We will be updating that web page with information and advice on how best to navigate the new application system, as soon as we at White Rose Visas have first hand experience of it.
