If you are travelling to Sheffield for a Premium appointment at the Premium Service Centre, you may have a chance to explore the city or the nearby Peak District National Park. Even clients who are only visiting for the day usually have time to head into town after their biometric appointment, and before a decision is made on their application.
With over 550,000 residents, and stretching as far out as the Peak District National Park, Sheffield is the UK's fourth largest - and greenest - city! We would particularly recommend the following places of interest:
Sheffield Cathedral is just a 10 minute walk from the PSC. Parts of this building were laid in 1200, which makes it one of the oldest buildings in Sheffield. The lantern tower displays an exciting piece of stained glass artwork.
The Winter Gardens and Museum, opened in 2003, is the largest urban glasshouse in Europe. The heated building is home to tropical plants from exotic locations. Museum Sheffield is situated inside this glasshouse and holds displays of some of Europe's most famous artwork in a variety of different exhibitions. Both of these are child friendly and free to visit!
Town Hall and City Hall: Sheffield Town Hall was opened in 1897 and is an example of elaborate Victorian architecture. The gardens outside the building include a 10 foot high water display and large ornamental structures. Across the road, on Barkers Pool, is City Hall: a fantastic pillared international concert venue.
Shopping: Sheffield is the home of one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, Meadowhall. Located just 15 minutes away from the PSC by Supertram, this is a great place to spend the afternoon shopping and has become a favourite with many of White Rose Visas' clients. Alternatively Fargate, the main city centre shopping area, is just a 10 minute walk from the PSC.
Eating Out: Sheffield City Centre holds some great restaurants, perfect for an evening meal or a leisurely lunch. Leopold Square holds a number of restaurants serving everything from Japanese and Indian cuisine, through to brick oven pizza. Leopold Square is situated in the city centre, just a 10 minute walk from the PSC.
If you plan to extend your stay, you may wish to visit the Peak District National Park which is just a half hour bus journey away from the city centre.
